You can just dig another pit downstream for the water to flow to if you're just making a couple muddy farm plots one time. So you'll need a floodgate upstream, and probably a grate downstream - and then you need somewhere for the water to go. Usually I just use it for creating farmland and for wells (useful in hospitals and prisons), but you can also use it for power generation or mist (makes dwarves happy but pretty risky), or for traps.įor farmland, you need a way to get water into the plot and then back out. The biggest thing you want to plan out is what you'll use the water for. But if you're not ready for that, just build on another part of your starting area.
